We Thought Again

In March of 2009, I made a rather abrupt transition from “safe and secure” employee to startup business owner (again). This was not my first business startup, but it had some unique elements: Although I had thought about it, it was not planned, it was driven by external circumstances, and I was in no position financially to start a new business. But I did it anyway, because I knew it was what I was meant to do at that time. That was the beginning of Think Again Coaching the business and brand that has been my life for the past five years. Interestingly, I did not give the whole concept / name or brand much thought. I had been “thinking about it,” but I found myself in transition and it was time to get going. So I got going and created Think AgainTM, a speaking, consulting and coaching business that helps businesses and business owners grow, with a focus on professionals.

In the beginning, it was simple: we were trainers, coaches and consultants. We helped professionals grow their client base by developing the next generation of rainmakers. We also assisted them in building deeper and more connected relationships with their existing clients. We taught businesses, leaders and their teams how to trust each other, communicate, be accountable, and consistently and effectively execute their plans. In essence, we started out by helping our clients grow, build, and accelerate their businesses. We were good at what we did, and we added value to our clients, but lots of people did that. We thought we did it better and different, but in many ways we were like other consulting and coaching businesses.

After five years, I realized I actually needed to live out my own words and advice.  It was time to re-think not only what I do, but who I am, and to craft my vision and business more purposefully. I guess you could say that I thought again! The outcome is not only a new brand but, more importantly, a clearer mission and calling to help people and businesses experience personal and professional transformation. Welcome The Nischwitz Group … Transforming People and Organizations One Story at a Time! Check out our third article to learn more about one of the stories that block our way to transformation.

The foundation of this new beginning was a shift from focusing only on what we do to getting clear about why we do what we do and what we believe. Call it mission, call it purpose, call it core values; whatever you call it, we’ve gotten clear on what we believe, and now we’re building our business – what we do, how we do it, and who we do it for – around our why, our beliefs and our values.

What We Believe (www.nischwitzgroup.com):

  1. Our clients are the reason we exist. You’re not a necessary evil or just a source of revenue. Our clients are like the air we breathe, without which we cannot exist. We are committed to solving and transforming, consistent with this belief that our clients are the essence of us.
  2. We believe in stories and their power to both to disconnect us and empower us, personally and professionally. By debunking the stories that no longer serve us and connecting with our authentic stories, we create the foundation for transformation.
  3. We believe in relationships. Deep, connected, and mutually beneficial relationships, both within teams or organizations and with clients, are game-changers that drive transformation.
  4. We believe in authenticity and vulnerability. Open, authentic and vulnerable leaders nurture organizations that trust, create, and get things done. This new model of the aware and conscious leader engages and enlivens people, teams and organizations.
  5. We believe in accountability and integrity. Integrity is simple: do what you say you are going to do when you say you will do it. Accountability can be just as simple: Did you do what you said you were going to do?
  6. We believe in the power of questions to open eyes, shift paradigms, and identify the path to visionary objectives. We have ideas to share, but often it will be our questions that will light the way.
  7. We believe in questioning everything but changing only those things that will help you get where you want to go – faster and more predictably.
  8. We believe in alignment and integration. When leaders fully align and integrate who they really are into their leadership, people, teams, and organizations will come alive.
  9. We believe in gifts, passion, and love. Our unique gifts differentiate us, and identifying and focusing on our collective gifts is a powerful accelerator. When combined with love for what we do and even love for the people with whom we work, the resulting passion can set any person, team or organization on fire.
  10. We believe in transformation of leaders, of organizations, of teams, and of people.  If you’re going to go, then go big. When people wake up, are more aware, and live, work, and lead consciously, transformation is the outcome.

There it is – this we believe!

I am inspired by men and women like Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Mahatma Gandhi, Margaret Mead, Steve Jobs, and Oprah Winfrey. They were mission-driven people who had vision and took risks to create transformational change. We want to work with the same kinds of clients. What did they all share? They cared enough to take the risk of being rejected in order to change things.

Steve Jobs of Apple called these types of people the Crazy Ones. They didn’t do it all, but they led from the front – authentic, vulnerable, and passionate. We choose to live and do business in the same way. We are one of those small groups of thoughtful committed people that are passionate about changing the world, one person and one relationship at a time (credit to Margaret Mead).

And so the journey continues, for The Nischwitz Group and for me, helping people and organizations experience new ways of being and leading, understanding that who we are and how we think is part of our business, not separate from it. We’ve discovered that business transformation follows personal transformation, and this transformation is always inside-out. At the core of our purpose is the recognition that you bring your life into your business, and your business will only be as good as your life.

If you’d like to know more about what we do and how we do it, I hope you’ll explore www.nischwitzgroup.com. I think you’ll quickly see that it’s a major shift from what came before! It speaks to a different way of leading and being, including topics such as conscious leadership, unleashing accountable teams, waking up yourself and your teams, and personal transformation.
